Thank you for trying The ClarkWehyr Enterprises Installer v1.10!


Please note that "ABC Software" and the "ABC Widget Cruncher" are
entirely fictitious.  I made 'em up for the express purpose of
demonstrating my new software installer, The ClarkWehyr Enterprises
Installer v1.10.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS:  If you write programs for the DOS market, you
may have discovered that small, fast, and inexpensive installation
engines for DOS software are hard to find.  CWINST aims to correct
that oversight by providing a small, feature-packed, simple
installation package:

   * No scripts!

   * Easily customized--you simply edit an INI file and run the
     included make utility to create a unique setup executable.

   * Small--the install program is only about 70kb.

   * Internal file compression--no need for an external utility!

   * Supports installation from any media, including floppy disk, hard
     disk, network volumes and CD-ROM.

   * Supports multiple-disk installations, up to 999 volumes.

   * CWINST can modify the user's PATH, LASTDRIVE, FILES and BUFFERS
     statements in the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files.  Or, if the
     user prefers, CWINST can make modifications to _copies_ of the
     AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files, leaving the originals alone.

   * Can create installation logs that may be used for an eventual
     uninstall utility (to be announced later, perhaps).

   * Can optionally reboot the user's PC after modifying AUTOEXEC.BAT
     and/or CONFIG.SYS (DOS and Win 3.x platforms only).

   * The developer can specify an executable or DOS command to be run
     after a successful installation.

   * CWINST automatically displays one of README.1ST, README.TXT,
     README., READ.ME, FILE_ID.DIZ or VENDINFO.DIZ (in that order)
     after a successful installation.  The developer can use the
     internal viewer or can specify an external one.

   * CWINST automatically displays contact information for the
     developer after a successful installation.

   * CWINST incorporates a high degree of self-validation to help
     insure that the install set your users receive has not been
     modified.


REQUIREMENTS:
=============
CWINST requires an IBM PC-AT compatible computer, DOS v3.0 or better,
about 360kb of free disk space to install, and approximately 200kb
free conventional memory to run.


INSTALLATION:
=============
If you received CWINST on floppy disk, insert disk #1 into the floppy
drive and type

                              A:\INSTALL

If your floppy drive is not drive A:, replace A: in the above command
with the drive letter of your floppy drive.

If you downloaded CWINST from the Internet or a BBS, use PKUNZIP or a
similar utility to extract the contents of the CWINS110.ZIP archive
into a temporary directory--e.g.,

                       PKUNZIP CWINS110 C:\TEMP


Then, type
                           C:\TEMP\INSTALL

to begin the installation.  When the installation is done, you can
delete the files you unzipped earlier (in C:\TEMP) if you like.


REGISTRATION
============
CWINST is SHAREWARE.  You are granted a 30 day license to evaluate the
software.  After that time, you are required to either register the
product or remove it from your computer and backup media.

Registration removes the "Unregistered" pop-up window that appears
when starting the install program.

It also removes the embarrassing "UNREGISTERED COPY" text that
announces to the world that you're releasing software using an
unregistered install program. :-)
